McGwire was barely better than Dave Kingman and doesn't belong in the hall with or without steroids!!!!!
HOFers \'09
written by RJM713, January 08, 2009
Henderson is the greatest lead-off hitter of all-time, not to mention the most valuable impact player in rotisserie history.
Jim Rice is long overdue - his problems with the media have held up his rightful induction for far too long. McGwire? If Pete Rose is denied entry for lying about gambling, then this guy should be kept out indefinitely as well for refusing to answer questions about steroid usage. Morris? Sorry, only won 254 games with three 20-game seasons and no CYs. Also, his supposed great post-season record stands at 13-13 - hardly HOF worthy. No sustained dominance. Everyone else? Some are on the bubble (Blyleven and Raines), but not HOFers IMHO.

Henderson is the best leadoff hitter of all time, so that is a no Brainer.
Blylevin belongs. He put up amazing #s on awful teams and would have over 300 wins under different circumstances. He was way better than Sutton, Neikro and several other hall of famers too. Although Rice is one of my favorites he just misses my vote, but I think he will get in this year. My special writ-in vote is for Albert Belle, who was only eliminated last year because writers didn't like him. He had one of the best 10-year stretches in the history of the game and after Manny, Bonds and A-Rod is the next best hitter I've seen in my 35 years as a fan. He was a jerk, but he was great and only writers hatred and an injury have kept him out

Rickey Henderson is a NO BRAINER
Tommy John redefined pitcher surgery...I give him a YES vote Matt Williams was a beast for 5 years but falls into the Donnie Baseball problem...didn't do it long enough Bert "Be Home By Eleven" NO, beat my Cards in 87!!!! Seriously, on the fence
Jim Rice
written by Will Smith, January 04, 2009
How is it that Jim Rice was consistently pitched around and feared while he played but the day after he retired everyone says, "bahh Jim Rice wasn't that great"?
You know who was NEVER that great Donnie baseball. Quite possibly the most over rated position player in the history of baseball. If he had played for the Royals no one would even remember his name. Of course the most over rated Player of all time is Johnny Van Der Meer with back to back no hitters and still a career record below 500.

Henderson - no question
Rice - Road splits by other parks not as bad as many say - he hit .290 or better in half the parks he played in including .331 in Yankee stadium. Look at some other HOF'ers from that era and they have similar splits when you look at each individual park. 3 HR crowns, 2 RBI crowns and 4 TB crowns offset the GIDP - Hey, he was paid to drive in runs. He hit .310 lifetime with RISP - he gets my vote.

Henderson-no brainer
Blyleven-should have been in years ago Dawson-dominated right field in the 80's, great defense plus 470 HR McGwire-there is no ban for steroids so shouldn't be banned from Hall Murphy-2 time MVP and one of the best players in the NL of his generation Lee Smith-former all time saves leader, if Hoffman gets in so should Smith, one of the most intimidating closers ever Trammel-one of, if not, the best all-around at his position for more than a decade, Gammons says he's a no doubter And from the vets committee, for heaven's sake, Ron Santo Hall of Fame=most arrogant club in the world.

Blyleven great Career numbers on some very poor teams
Trammell..dominant in AL at his position along with Ripken for years Rice Numbers speak .A DOMINANT hitter in his era Dawson..Star NL outfielder in his era and always among the best for years.Among the best and great numbers means HOF Henderson..no brainer NOTE Maury Wills changed the game on the bases. When Wills got on base, the crowd noise filled with anticipation. Wills changed the games momentum on the bases and brought back the stolen base to MLB after years of declining speed. WAKE UP OLD TIMERS! AGREE?

Henderson - no questions there
Raines - Stacks up a lot more favorably than one might imagine. The poor man's Henderson, perhaps... McGwire - Performance enhancers aside, I don't think you can deny his place in the game's history. I know they're going to rake him over the coals for a while for his sins, but he deserves his plaque in the Hall Dawson, Trammell, Murphy (didn't he win back-to-back MVPs?) and Rice are all on the fence for me.
Hall of Fame
written by Tony Cincotta, January 03, 2009
The Hall of Fame is not for the good. It is for the elite. So with that in mind here we go.
Ricky Henderson: A complete no brainer, crazy guy but the # 1 leadoff hitter of all time. Bert Blyleven: If you dont think so, you are not paying attention. MarK Mcgwire: All those homers...He is in and has never been guilty of anything. Gaylord Perry has more dirt on his hands.
