Week 13 has arrived, and with the season nearly at the halfway point, unexpected players are still producing. To know who they are, one must read this week’s Start/Sit.

Starting Pitcher in focus: Ricky Nolasco

altAfter being sent to the minors, Nolasco has been outstanding in the month of June. In his last four starts, he is 2-1, with a 1.80 ERA, and is holding opponents to a .245 batting average. Fantasy Owners should highly consider him this week.

Pitchers we love for week 13: Jon Lester, Roy Oswalt, Ted Lilly, Chris Carpenter, Gavin Floyd, Joba Chamberlain, Rich Harden, Joe Saunders, Ubaldo Jimenez, Rick Porcello, and Zack Duke.

Starter to Avoid for week 13: Bronson Arroyo

In his last six starts, Arroyo is 2-3 with a 5.15 ERA. Opponents are hitting .287 and he is scheduled to pitch against  Dan Haren and Chris Carpenter in week 13. Fantasy owners should be cautious and not start Arroyo for week 13.

Other Starters to Avoid: Randy Wolf, Randy Johnson, Joe Blanton, Brandon Morrow, Kenshin Kawakami, and Ross Ohlendorf.

Position Players: Infielders

In his last 23 games, 1B Billy Butler is hitting .289 with three home runs and 11 RBI. In week 13, the Kansas City Royals will play all seven of their games at home, where he is hitting .331, with six home runs, and 24 RBI.

In his last 20 games, 2B Casey McGehee is hitting .400, with four home runs, and 14 RBI. During that span, McGehee has scored 14 runs, and has an OPS 1.150. He is currently hitting .339, and is a viable option for week 13.

SS Jack Wilson is having a great month of June. In 22 games, he has two home runs with eight RB, and is hitting .354. He is a viable option for week 13.

3B Kevin Kouzmanoff is producing very well in June. In 23 games, he has six home runs with 20 RBI. After hitting .214 in May, he is hitting a respectable .278 in June, and should be considered for week 13.

Other Infielders to Consider: Asdrubal Cabrera, Willie Bloomquist, and Mark Teahen.

Infielder to Avoid: Kelly Johnson

In May, he hit .297, yet that has all changed in June. In 21 games, Johnson has no home runs, with only two RBI. He has on OPS of .402, and should be on the bench for week 13.

Outfielders:

OF Jason Kubel is having a career year. In 23 games in June, he is hitting .293 with eight home runs and 16 RBI. His OPS is 1.043, and he has scored 12 runs. A great AL-only start, and a viable option in mixed leagues.

OF Cody Ross is establishing himself as a viable mixed league Fantasy player. In 24 games in June, he is hitting .326, with six home runs, and 17 RBI. His OPS in June is .995, and is an excellent start for week 13.

OF Andrew McCutchen is playing phenomenally in the month of June. In his last 13 games, he has one home run with 13 RBI, and is hitting .309. In that span, McCutchen has three steals and has scored 10 runs.

Other Outfielders to Consider: Nick Swisher, Jayson Werth, and Brett Gardner.

Outfielder to Avoid in week 13: Jeff Francoeur

Unfortunately, June has been a month to forget for Francoeur. In 23 games, he is hitting a mere .238, with two home runs and nine RBI. His OPS is .649, and even though the Atlanta Braves host the Phillies and travel to play the Washington Nationals, he must be on the bench for week 13.

Catchers: Kurt Suzuki

Over his last 13 games, he is hitting .294 with three home runs and eight RBI. He is starting to heat up again and is a very good No. 2 Fantasy catcher.

Catcher to Avoid: Rod Barajas

Relief Pitchers: Andrew Bailey

In his last six appearances, he has not allowed a run and has lowered his ERA from 2.58 to 2.18. Over that span, Bailey has three saves and is holding opponents to a .174 batting average on the year. Fantasy Owners looking for saves should consider him for week 13.

Relief Pitcher to Avoid: Chad Qualls
