Today begins a series of many interviews that I will be posting on FantasyPros911.com, which will include prospects, All-Stars, and maybe some Hall of Famers. This interview features Twins pitching prospect Anthony Swarzak. Baseball America ranked Swarzak as the Twins 5th best overall prospect in 2008. You can find some video on Swarzak here, and stats here. Thanks to B.B. Abbott of Jet Sports Management for helping to set up this interview. My questions are in bold and italics, and his answers are in plain text.Be sure to leave a comment below on your thoughts from the interview, and maybe list a few prospects or current major leaguers that you would like to see featured in future interviews. Kevin Orris: Which players did you idolize growing up? Who do you try to model your game after? Anthony Swarzak: Josh Beckett was someone that I tried to pattern myself after. I liked his intensity and his desire to never give in to hitters. KO: What do you think your biggest strengths are? Weaknesses? AS: I think my competitive spirit is something that continually motivates me. It is something that I try to use to my advantage. My weakness is that it sometimes causes me to throw too many strikes, because I go right after hitters. KO:Do you try to go after the hitter’s weakness, or pitch to your strengths? AS: I almost always pitch to my strengths. We don't have much film available so scouting reports aren't as they are in the big leagues. They teach us to pitch our game based on our strengths, keeping in mind the hitters' vunlnerabilities. KO: You’ve played with a variety of minor league teams in your career already, which one has been your favorite? AS: I really enjoyed my time with the Fort Myers Miracle. KO: Where do you think you rank among the Twins other prospects? AS: I would like to think that I am in the Twins Top 10 prospects. KO: Do you pay attention to statistics or rumors much? How do they affect you? AS: I use statistics as a gauge to success. They drive me toward my goal of perfection. Most of the time, statistics don't lie. KO: Who are some of the best hitters that you have faced in the minors so far? AS: There are quite a few. But to name a couple - Ryan Braun, Cameron Maybin, and Greg Golson. KO: If the Twins trade a pitcher for a third basemen, do you think that you will get the call-up? AS: That is something that is out of my control, but I am motivated to work hard and hopefully it will be me. KO: What goals do you have for 2009? Beyond then? AS: I want to pitch in the big leagues in '09 and have success there. For the long term, I want to establish myself as a durable, reliable starter at the front of a rotation. KO: What role do you think you play in the Twins plans at this time? Have you discussed playing in the big leagues in 2009? AS: I would certainly like to fit into their rotation in the near future, but I have had no discussions with the Twins or any coaches up to this point. My job is to work hard, perform and let the team decide when I am ready and can help the club win at the big league level. Trackback(0)
