The name Wilson is represented in just about everything, ranging from politics (Woodrow Wilson) to TV shows (Mr. & Mrs. Wilson on Dennis the Menace to James Wilson on House) to pop music (Brian Wilson and the rest of the Beach Boys and even Wilson Phillips). The name conjures up images of smart, stable and dynastic. When you think of great baseball names, you might think of Rodriguez or Ramirez or Jones or Smith. But the surname Wilson takes a back seat to none of them. The others might have more star power but Wilson has more depth. Unlike those other names, the Wilsons star in all 10 fantasy categories. And that’s without even considering Wilson Alvarez, Wilson Betemit or Wilson Valdez. So, here are the Top 10 Wilson Fantasy Seasons.
10. 2008 Brian Wilson – 3 W, 41 SV, 4.62 ERA, 67 SO, 1.444 WHIP
9. 1985 Glenn Wilson - .275-14-102-73-7 Wilson drew MVP votes this season. The one thing you don’t see in this line is that he had 18 outfield assists, which commanded a lot of respect. Of course, he also had 12 errors. Neither one of those are very easy to do. 8. 1996 Dan Wilson - .285-18-83-51-1 This was the only All-Star campaign in the 14-year career of the Seattle catcher. He established career highs in both home runs and RBIs. 7. 1982 Mookie Wilson - .279-5-55-90-58
6. 2004 Jack Wilson - .308-11-59-82-8 He also led the league in triples with 12 this year. The performance got him a two-year $8 million deal. And he followed that up with a three-year, $20.2 million contract, which is up following this season, although the Pirates do hold a club option. Is he enough of a fan favorite for Pittsburgh to overpay him with another multi-year deal? 5. 1967 Earl Wilson – 22 W, 3.27 ERA, 184 SO, 1.167 WHIP
4. 1971 Don Wilson – 16 W, 2.45 ERA, 180 SO, 1.022 WHIP For eight straight years, Don Wilson won double-digit games for the Houston Astros. He pitched two no-hitters, struck out 18 batters in a game and his final appearance he hurled a two-hit shutout over the Braves in 1974. The following January, Wilson was found in the passenger seat of his car inside the garage with the car running. The garage was attached to his house and the poison emissions caused his son to die, too. 3. 2003 Preston Wilson - .282-36-141-94-14
Preston Wilson was Mookie Wilson’s nephew. And his stepson, too. Not knowing the details of the situation, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that family reunions might be a bit problematic in the Wilson family. Maybe it’s more wholesome than I am imagining and the biggest controversy is Mookie and Preston arguing over who was the better baseball player. 2. 1980 Willie Wilson - .326-3-49-133-79 This year he led the league in AB (705), runs, hits (230) and triples (15). But he finished 21 thefts behind SB leader Rickey Henderson. It was a different game back then. I wish we could have had a footrace between Willie and Mookie in 1980 to see who the fastest Wilson was that year. Willie was clearly the better base stealer but Mookie might have been able to beat him in a 100-yard dash. 1. 1930 Hack Wilson - .356-56-191-146-3

Yes, the rest of the line is ugly but c’mon it’s 41 saves! It’s like George Bush going on a job interview. Sure, he tells the interviewer, I was fired from McDonald’s, let go by Dollar General and laid off by Big Lots, but did you see that last one on the list? I was the President!
You have got to love the offensive numbers put up in the 1920s and 1930s. Wilson finished 10th in average and fourth in runs scored. However, he managed to cop the HR and RBI titles and managed the rare feat of adding an RBI to his total after he passed away, as researchers found an extra RBI that was officially added to his total in 1999. Wilson was a 5-foot-6, 190-pound center fielder. He had a great peak to his career, but lasted just 12 seasons in the majors, in part due to his fondness for alcohol.
