It’s the end of January and there are three big names left in the outfield free agent class. Where will they land and h ow does it impact your fantasy teams?Adam Dunn Everyone knows Adam Dunn can pound the ball. In fact he is the only player that I am seeing projected for over 40 homers by every source of projections. Whether he ends up in Washington, Atlanta, or the Dodgers (supposedly his preferred location), he will hit lots of home runs and hit for a low average. His projections are .250/40/100/95. His low batting average normally causes Dunn to fall in drafts. His ADP is currently 65 with a high of 44 and a low of 96, proving he can really fall almost 3 rounds later than expected cause people are scared of his poor Batting average. My Verdict – If you can handle the low batting average he can be a great value pick. He has been dropping in mocks because he is not signed but does anyone think he will not sign somewhere? This is foolish. Bobby Abreu Not really sure why he hasn’t been signed either. Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated recently pointed out in a article that “Abreu is one of three players in history with a .400 on-base percentage, 300 steals and 200 home runs (Barry Bonds and Rickey Henderson are the others) and one of three with 100 RBIs in each of the last three years (Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols are the others)”. My guess is that the teams most interested in him are also interested in Manny and Dunn so until one of them sign, the other wont either, creating the current stalemate that exists. If I was a betting man I would say he will end up as either a Dodger or a Met. He currently has an ADP of 43 going in the 4th round and projected .287/17/95/95/20. My Verdict – Don’t let the fact that he is not signed yet scare you. Wherever he ends up, he will produce for his fourth round draft value Manny Ramirez The Mets' fans and many Met players, such as David Wright. are openly hoping for Manny to arrive in New York. Even their Manager Jerry Manuel has been quoted as saying "To have a shot at managing [him] would be exciting for me." Other rumors put him on San Francisco or the with the Dodgers. No matter where he lands, Manny will do well once he settles down and starts playing baseball. This is the key to Manny being Manny. He is an excellent hitter who should be able to produce .300/30/100/100 numbers without a doubt when he puts his mind to baseball. If he is worried about his 1 year contract or that he being mistreated by his teammates, the team ownership, his manager or the media then Manny is not thinking about baseball. That’s where the problem lies. So watch carefully where Manny ends up and if you draft him be prepared for what comes next. Either you will ride him to a championship or he can help sink your team. My Verdict – Manny is too risky of a personality to pick where he should be drafted (early second-round). If he slips down to the fourth grab him. Weve all seen what the impact Manny can bring to a lineup, Andre Ethier anyone?
Numerous baseball people have said the key to Arods success is having Abreu bat in front of him bc pitchers have to throw most/all of their pitches to Abreu.
Ive seen articles that state that Dunn has a big positive impact on his teams running game
As a side note, I hate the yankees, but I would love to see manny sign there so they can make a run at 1000 Rs, and make my 'man crush' for Jeter this year more likely to be founded.
