Fantasy Baseball Beginners

There’s a phrase that gets tossed around on many fantasy sports websites, as well as by economists, and that is “buy low, sell high.”  It’s such a simple phrase, yet it means so much when it comes to investing.  It is the key to being a good manager of your assets after initially drafting them.  In this case, your assets are the players that you roster on your fantasy teams.

I’ve taken the time today to put together a list of guys to sell high, and next week, I’ll cover some guys to buy low.

Orlando Hudson, Los Angeles Dodgers: There have been many top notch second basemen this year including Ian Kinsler, Brian Roberts, and Robinson Cano, but one of the most surprising has been Hudson.  He is currently 8th out of all hitters according to the CBSSports.com points system, mainly because he hit for the cycle against Randy Johnson on April 13.  It’s unlikely that he keeps his .351 batting average which is the reason to sell him while he’s high (but starting to cool).

Brandon Inge, Detroit Tigers: Inge is a big asset because in most leagues he qualifies at third base and catcher, but that has no effect on his offensive performance.  His .323 average is much higher than expected, along with his seven home runs so far in April.  There’s no way that he keeps up his pace to hit 63 home runs this year, so be sure to sell him while you can!

Kosuke Fukudome, Chicago Cubs: Don’t even try to convince me that Fukudome is going to keep his .371 average for the 2009 season.  Last year we saw the same thing that we are seeing right now, and if we learned anything, it was to sell him now.  The odds are slim that he continues his hot streak, especially once Milton Bradley is healthy and he loses some of his playing time.  He’s been on a downward slope if you look at his points that he’s
accumulated thus far.

Jesus Flores, Washington Nationals: One hot week and the guy is getting picked up like crazy, especially in leagues that require two catchers.  If you did pick him up, try to move him immediately, because this hot streak will cool off soon.

Kyle Lohse
, St. Louis Cardinals: I will be the first to admit that I picked him up in a few leagues the first week or two of the season, just in case, but he’s starting to fade.  The recent MRI was negative for any issues, but I’m still cautious.  If you have any Lohse lovers in your leagues, be sure to ship him there ASAP.

Kevin Millwood, Texas Rangers: Millwood came back to earth last night, and showed his true self.  Don’t expect too much from this veteran, considering he’s not going to bring in strikeouts, and in the long run will just wear down your ERA and WHIP.  He’s starting to cool, but if people ignore his past two starts, he might be tradable still.  If no one wants him, just drop him.

There you have it folks, my top sell high candidates this week.  Be sure to leave a comment below with some other sell high possibilities that you feel I missed.

The problem is that no one will give you anything of value for any of those guys. Good luck trying to "sell high."

Are you trying to seriously say to not trade Flores? I'm hoping so, because boy would I love to talk to you about that one.
