The Cincinnati Reds have traded Willy Taveras along with infielder Adam Rosales to the Oakland Athletics for infielder Aaron Miles and some other guy they'll decide on in the near future.
Things could have gone a whole lot better for Taveras in Cincinnati last season, after he hit just .240 with a shoddy .275 on-base percentage as the team's leadoff hitter. The oft-injured center fielder did, however, steal 25 bases. I guess that counts for something. Maybe a change of scenery will help him get back into the swing of things, and possibly even reanimate his numbers from 2007, where he batted .320 over 92 games. In other words, do not draft this guy. He'll be a giant disappointment, much like everyone in this deal. Speaking of disappointments, let's take a look at Aaron Miles' numbers from last season. In 74 games with the Chicago Cubs, the second baseman hit just .185. I'm pretty sure the club could have done without his five RBIs. Career-wise, Miles is a .282 hitter with a .322 OBP... not really worth a look these days, though, especially with Dusty Baker at the helm. Rosales batted .213 with four homers and 19 RBIs over 87 games during his rookie season. He's just 26, so he has a lot of promise and may make a good bench-warmer. Trackback(0)
