With the trade deadline approaching keep your eyes on the prize – especially in “only” leagues where a big-ticket player may be added to your league. In the meantime, let’s talk two-start non-stud pitchers for the upcoming week: Brandon Morrow: home to Baltimore (Bergesen) and Cleveland (Westbrook) Kevin Millwood: at Toronto (Romero) and Kansas City (Chen) Jason Hammel: at Philadelphia (Blanton), home to Chicago (Silva)
Jorge de la Rosa: home to Pittsburgh (Duke) and Chicago (Dempster) Randy Wolf: home to Cincinnati (Arroyo), away at Houston (Wright) Your “Roll of the Dice” two-start pitcher is…………….
Justin Masterson: home toNew York (Vazquez), away at Toronto (Litsch) On to some hitting for this week….. Nate McLouth is back, but I wouldn’t be too excited about that given his production so far this season. Grab him in NL-only leagues if you have a spare spot. Xavier Nady may see some extra at-bats with the Cubs facing two lefties this week. Gordon Beckham has awoken; get him off your bench if that is where you have been hiding him. The youth policy rolls on for the White Sox as Omar Vizquel has been playing in front of Dayan Viciedo, who apparently killed the radio star. Luke Scott is back from the DL and mashing from the get-go, when he is hot he can provide value so take a chance in deep leagues. Brian Roberts should actually play soon; it is unlikely he would be available in any solid league but just in case…. Scott Podsednik is ridiculous right now, with hits, stolen bases and even some home runs on tap! Get him while he’s hot! Get his wife too who is always hot!
With Alberto Callaspo being moved, Wilson Betemit will be the beneficiary and is not without skills. Jason Bay sucks. I know you already knew that, but it felt good to say it. Jed Lowrie is back in Boston, if your middle infield sucks he may be worth a shot. Ryan Ludwick is back, home runs await you if he is available. Michael Brantley will lose what value he has with Shin-Soo Choo returning from the DL. Jason Giambi – remember him? Is hitting well in his fill-in role at first base, don’t sleep on him in NL-only leagues if you need a boost in average with potential for some “pop”. Scott Sizemore is back in Detroit and has potential if you need middle infield help. Gabe Gross should get extra playing time in Oakland with Ryan Sweeney heading to the surgeon. If you need steals, Nyjer Morgan has been running like the wind over the last couple of weeks. Pedro Alvarez has been hotter than Marisa Miller in baseball pants; beware though as he loves a strikeout. Stable mate Neil Walker has also been raking with the bat and his dual position eligibility may help you out. Yunel Escobar seems to like Canada quite a bit, hitting over .400 with a couple of long balls since his arrival north of the border.
** STOP PRESS – Dan Haren is now an Angel, prepare to spend all of the money you have left in AL-only leagues !!!!! *** NL-only managers will have to make their bids on Joe Saunders also has reasonable value, even though he can’t strike my dog out.
Until next week, Boris is OUT! Trackback(0)
