After weeks/months of mock drafting, making lists and examining the player pools and projections, I finally have had a few of my real drafts last weekend. Guess what I discovered: the outfield position is really deep! Surprised? I hope not. Just to show you some names, here are some of the last outfield picks in my actual drafts and a few guys that might be worth considering that went unpicked. Almost all of these picks were used to fill out the bench spots. 12 team mixed (5 OF per team): Taken in last rounds - Brett Gardner, David Murphy, Ryan Church, Jason Kubel, David DeJesus, Ken Griffey Jr., Franklin Gutiérrez Not taken – Daniel Murphy, Cody Ross, Luke Scott, Ryan Spilborghs, Chris Duncan 10 Team ESPN Mixed Auction** (5 OF per team): Taken for $1 - Coco Crisp, Carlos Guillen, David DeJesus, Hideki Matsui, Eric Byrnes, Shin-Soo Choo, Adam Lind, Elijah Dukes, Ken Griffey Jr., Kosuke Fukudome, Jose GuillenNot taken – Nelson Cruz, J.D. Drew, Jeff Francoeur, Randy Winn, Jack Cust, Fred Lewis, Michael Bourn, Garret Anderson, Nick Swisher, Travis Snider, Denard Span, Juan Pierre **note that this was just a local friends league, and I would not classify this auction as an experienced auction league. 16 team Yahoo Style (3 OF per team): Taken in last rounds - Elijah Dukes, Jason Kubel, Cameron Maybin, Denard Span, Kosuke Fukudome, Jack Cust, Michael Bourn, Colby Rasmus, Adam Lind, David Murphy, Aaron Rowand, Jeremy Hermida Not taken – Chris Dickerson, Eric Byrnes, Ken Griffey Jr., Fred Lewis, Daniel Murphy, Franklin Gutiérrez, Brett Gardner, Nyjer Morgan, Felix Pie 10 Team NL Only (5 OF per team): Taken in last rounds - Carlos González, Andrew McCutchen, Chris Duncan Not taken – Austin Kearns, Steve Pearce, Dexter Fowler, Fernando Tatis I am doing an AL-only league later this week so I will be sure to pass that list on to you next week. Are there any sleeper outfielders that you want to share? Leave us some names in the comments section. If you are drafting this week. Enjoy and Good luck! ******************************** One more thought. Just wanted to say thanks to Razzball.com for letting me participate in one of the blogger divisions in this year's Razzball Leagues. For those of you unfamiliar with these Leagues, you are basically trying to draft the worst team of players you can. It is much harder than you think because you want to make sure the players on your team actually play enough to accumulate those bad stats. You can follow the official standings here. I know our own Mike Podhorzer and Rob Reed, a few readers and some other friends of FP911 are also involved. Here are the details if you are interested in recreating a similar league amongst your pals. Trackback(0)

Mike I sent it to you privately, I actually found it quite easy to prepare for, just assigned point values based on the projections I am using... making sure to only use players that would get 350 or more ABs and SP pitchers with over 100 innings. RP are pretty much worthless cause they don't get enough innings.

I'd love to see your Razzball team. My draft is tonight and I am psyched to see how awful a pitching staff I could put together!

1) You should play in more competitive leagues (Cruz wasn't taken, but Fukudome was? haha)
2) OF isn't deep... stating OF is deep because platoon guys like Kearns, Scott & Pierre aren't drafted is comparable to stating that SS is deep because guys like Guzman, Renteria & Greene are available in most mixed league formats on the waiver wire.
BTW Sean, I liked reading the article, just didn't agree with it...
