Opening Day in the Outfield PDF Print E-mail
Roaming The Outfield

We all love Opening Day.  We spend hours and weeks researching players, drafting our fantasy teams, and even trying to fine tune our starting lineups.  All that work finally comes to focus as the real players take the field and the stats begin to accumulate. Next we we will get into some deeper analysis, but with only a few days in the books there is not much to talk about other than how our outfielders started. So let's look at how some outfielders started.

Who Started Hot:

Braves, Jordan Schafer (CF) homered in his first Major League at-bat, then walked and singled going 3-2 for the night. Teammate Jeff Francoeur (RF) also homered.

Adam Jones (CF) started the season going 3-3 with a homerun, triple and single.

Johnny Damon (LF) went 3-2 with a triple.

Nyjer Morgan (LF) had 3 singles and a stolen base.

Ryan Ludwick hit a home run and a double, while teammate Skip Schumaker (LF) got a pinch hit single after not starting at second base as expected.

Colorado outfielders debuted well. Seth Smith (RF) homered and stole a base, Brad Hawpe (LF) doubled twice and Ryan Spilborghs (CF) doubled.

Adam Dunn (LF) goes 4-2 with a homer and a double in his debut with his new team.

Cub Alfonso Soriano started the game with his 50th career leadoff homer. He later added another hit but left five on base.

Matt Kemp (CF) homered and teammate Andre Ethier (RF )had two hits. Mannyball was held hitless.

Ken Griffey Jr. (RF)  was welcomed back to Seattle with a homer run as was his new teammate Franklin Gutierrez (CF).

Travis Snider (LF) hit a homerun and a double while his DHing teammate Adam Lind homered and going 5-4 with six RBIs.

Not So Hot

Willy Taveras (CF) started the season on the bench with the flu, Darnell McDonald got the start instead.  Popular sleeper pick Chris Dickerson also did not start.

The Nationals'  Elijah Dukes (RF) turned out to be 4th outfielder when Austin Kearns became the starter.

Eric Byrnes (RF) went hitless after the surprising non-opening day start for Justin Upton.
