Dear Fantasy Sport Game Providers, Over the last 20 years I have been an avid Fantasy Sports game enthusiast. The advent of the Internet revolutionized the way we all play these games. ESPN, Yahoo, CBS, Sporting News, Fox, Mock Draft Central and countless other web sites that offer the fantasy sports gamers like me the opportunity to draft our own teams against other fantasy gamers across the world has been amazing. One of the nicest things about these sites in is they all allow us create custom draft lists and rankings on their sites so that we can draft our teams. However, with all the technological know-how that exists putting these sites together and the work individuals like myself put into creating these custom ranking lists, what none of these providers has allowed us to do is export or import that that list to a file that can be used elsewhere. The ability to have a universal ranking list that I can manipulate offline either in excel, word or even a standard text file format is what I am asking you all to provide. I can then take that list and upload it to your site instead of having to deal with flash, java, or shockwave. Please relieve me of having to participate in the painstaking task of dragging and dropping or typing a list of two to five hundred players into the order I wish to place them to then appear on my drafting list across multiple platforms. I know many of our fantasy game providers have provided us with the ability to take our custom list once created and spread it to other team but that is not enough. This is because you have already granted us the ability to create custom leagues and use various formats. The fantasy sports gamers of today participate in multiple leagues across multiple platforms to take advantage of the strengths of these formats, whether they are game eligibility rules, available categories, mock drafting, or many other individualized preferences. We use tools like Excel and other draft software to provide us with the ability to sort various statistics and projections to create these custom draft lists. If you were able to provide us with a way to take advantage of these technologies without the cumbersome task of updating player by player on your sites we would be forever grateful. Despite the ability to be online for many hours of the day, I can not always be online. I can not always access the custom ranking lists while on the go to tweak them as I am reading some of these same providers' email newsletters, news articles and radio and podcast offerings. Letting me create a list that is accessible offline that I can tweak wherever I am is worth its weight in bobble-heads. Ideally the Fantasy Sports game providers of today can get together and create a universal format that we can upload and download our custom draft lists so they work whether we are in a bragging rights league on ESPN, a money league on CBS, or doing a mock draft on Mock Draft Central. I will even be bold enough to provide you with a source that you all should be in agreement with. MLB.com has a six digit number assigned to every player. Although I am not familiar with how these numbers are assigned to players, I think it is the obvious choice of allowing us the ability to create customized lists outside of your games that can then be added into your game formats. In closing, I would like to thank you for all your offering over the years that have made the Fantasy Sports Industry what it is today. Now I simply ask you to go forward and take the next step and give us a universal way to take advantage of the multiple offering of your platforms by providing us a way to import and export a custom ranking list into your games. Sincerely, Sean Agranov Trackback(0)

glad to know that I was not alone. Hopefully those with the "power" will implement this change.

Hey Scott
We have two main sources of projection data. First, we aggregate other site information into an average and standard deviation. For this upcoming season we will also have our own SDH projections using our own formulas. Kevin

Kevin, what projection system does your site use and is that customizable?

Boy those java drag order apps are a pain.
Along these lines my company, sportsdatahub.com, makes fantasy analysis more convenient for those of us with several leagues. We allow you to analyze all your teams in one place taking into account your league scoring systems. One of our new tools this year is a draft cheatsheet generator and I think your idea would fit in well. We allow export of the cheatsheet to excel, so you can tweak it more before your draft. We don't have a way to store your master lists as you suggest, but that would not be hard to add if there was interest. Great post. Thanks Kevin Write comment
