From TMZ.Com

Cops say someone driving a minivan blew through a red light, causing the Mitsubishi that Adenhart was riding

in to hit a light pole. Three people were killed in the crash: Nick, another man and a woman.

Cops say the person driving the van fled the scene -- but was later caught and charged with felony hit-and-run. The suspect is currently being treated for injuries in a local hospital.

We're told one of the other men killed in the crash was also affiliated with the Angels organization.

Nick was 22 years old.

FYI -- Nick pitched his ass off last night, striking out 5 guys in 6 scoreless innings. His performance was hailed by sportswriters as a "brilliant effort by a 22-year-old right-hander making his fourth Major League start."

As a baseball fan and a follower of the Salt Lake Bees, a team that Adenhart has spent lots of time with, I am saddened by this news. I am proud that the Athletics have allowed the Angels to postpone the game today to allow the Angels to re-cooperate.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. It's a tragedy to lose someone so young, especially due to an apparently sensless act (if the guy simply ran the red light odds are he would have stayed on the scene---my bet is that he was intoxicated to some degree).

Terrible, terrible news. Just a kid. Whenever (and as recently as last Friday night at my baseball club's junior award presentation evening) I address kids who play our beautiful game, I always say two things.

1. Play for your team mates, no individual is bigger than the team.

2. Play every game like it is your last.

Life can be way too short. It can be beautiful, but man, it can hurt so much.

Heaven just gained a great young arm. Tragic.

This is so sad. I just got an email from my brother with the subject "Nick Adenhart" thinking for sure he was asking me whether he should pick him up in his league after last night's solid outing. Never did I expect him to instead say that he was killed. I'm trying my best not to tear up, but it's difficult when this happens to a 22 year old top prospect.

This is horrific. I feel for Nick's family and can only add how pathetic my petty complaints are about my own life. I'm not a religious man but I pray for Nick's family and remain grateful for my own.
