Hello again NHL fans! It’s a new week, which means new Power Rankings here on Fantasypros911.com. Just remember when reading these rankings that the teams are ranked with where they are RIGHT now, not necessarily where they will end up at the end. With that out of the way, off to the rankings!
NOTE: The number before the review is this week’s ranking. The number after is last week’s ranking.
(1)---San Jose Sharks--- The Sharks take over the top spot in this week’s rankings seeing as they seem to be the most complete team in the league. The Dany Heatley trade looks like a steal so far. (2)
(2)---New Jersey Devils--- New Jersey has lost three straight games. The loss in Dallas hurts probably the most since they came back to tie the game after being down 3-1, only to lose 5-3. (1)
(3)---Washington Capitals--- Here is an example of a team who gives up lots of goals, which is usually not conducive to winning hockey, however their
offense is so good to make up for it, somehow the team keeps winning. (3)
(4)---Chicago Blackhawks--- Eight wins in ten games has the Blackhawks among the top teams in the Western Conference. In the division, six points separate first from forth. (4)
(5)---Pittsburgh Penguins--- After dealing with a rash of injuries, the Penguins are now atop the Atlantic Division. Why are the Devils ranked higher? New Jersey has three games in hand. (8)
(6)---Calgary Flames--- Last week I mentioned the Flames record at the Saddledome…this week they lost their only game there…got to win at home if you’re going to be successful. (7)
(7)---Ottawa Senators--- It’s good that Ottawa is winning now, since they have only played six road games and its only Thanksgiving. Still, even with that fact stated, you can’t fault the Sens for their schedule. (15)
(8)---Colorado Avalanche--- Slowly but surely, the Avalanche are coming back to earth. Did anyone see them keeping up the pace that they were on? At the same time, they could still contend for a playoff spot, which is more than anybody saw for this season. (5)
(9)---Dallas Stars--- With a big win over the visiting Devils last weekend, the Stars are looking like a team who could also contend this season. Marty Turco is having quite a bounce-back season. (19)
(10)---LA Kings--- The Kings have been struggling a bit lately after losing Ryan Smyth, but they are still in good position, they have been a bit of a surprise this season. (9)
(11)---Tampa Bay Lightning--- Tampa Bay still hasn’t lost a home game in regulation. Its pretty interesting to note since its Thanksgiving...but they have lost four in shootout/overtime. They need to pick up home wins to stay in the playoff race. (14)
(12)---Detroit Red Wings--- How many more injuries can one team sustain and still stay in the race for the playoffs/division? So far, things are working for the Red Wings. (11)
(13)---Buffalo Sabres--- Ryan Miller is having one of the best seasons a goalie can have thus far. Backup goaltending is quite an issue however, so Miller must stay in the crease for the Sabres to win games. (6)
(14)---Boston Bruins--- Boston has a great penalty killing unit however they are still having serious issues putting the puck in the net. (22)
(15)---Columbus Blue Jackets--- The Blue Jackets have been average as of late, getting embarrassed by the Rangers in New York this past week. (10)
(16)---Nashville Predators--- Eight wins in the last ten games…and now the team is suing the company who has the naming rights to their arena. Always fun to follow things in Nashville. (21)
(17)---Phoenix Coyotes--- Phoenix is an interesting team. They play great on some nights, and other times look like a pretty bad squad. Where the team ends up this season (and beyond) is anybody’s guess. (20)
(18)---Philadelphia Flyers--- The Flyers have the top power play unit in the league however are only in third place and are just a slightly above average team. (12)
(19)---Montreal Canadiens--- Montreal is another team that is just not that good. In all honesty, they are one of the biggest disappointments of the season thus far. They still have time to turn it around. (23)
(20)---New York Islanders--- If only the Isles could have scored one or two more goals this season at the right times and they would be way higher in the rankings. They are going to be a good team in the future. (18)
(21)---New York Rangers--- One of the biggest issues that the Rangers have is inconsistency. The fact that they are behind the rankings the Islanders this week shows how far the team has fallen. (13)
(22)---Atlanta Thrashers--- The Thrashers are another one of those teams who are decent, but nothing more. It would be nice for Bryan Little to score some goals. (16)
(23)---Vancouver Canucks--- Returning to the Canucks lineup last weekend, Daniel Sedin is the type of player who can carry a team and Vancouver could certainly use some carrying at this point in the season. (17)
(24)---Florida Panthers--- The Panthers are one of the hotter teams in the East, having won six of ten. The only issue in this situation is that the team finds itself right on the cusp. They are not completely out of it, but they aren’t exactly lighting the world on fire either. (25)
(25)---Edmonton Oilers--- If all of the Oilers games were at Rexall Place, they team would have very few issues. Unfortunately, they have played 11 road games…and won two of those games. (24)
(26)---Minnesota Wild--- Minnesota pretty much has the same issue that plagues the Oilers. In Minnesota, the team has won six of nine games….and only two of 13 outside of the land of 10,000 lakes. (27)
(27)---St. Louis Blues--- Here’s the funny part; they won their first two games…and have only won six since playing in Europe to open the season. (26)
(28)---Toronto Maple Leafs--- Now come the Maple Leafs: they are as pitiful at home then on the road. If they were in most cities where hockey isn’t a lifestyle, they would be struggling to stay afloat. (29)
(29)---Anaheim Ducks--- When it comes to winning games, you have to score more than the other team. It’s a fact, and when giving up the most goals in the division, you don’t win all that many games. (28)
(30)---Carolina Hurricanes--- As bad as some of these teams previously mentioned have been on the road, at least they have won a road game. As for the Hurricanes, well…. (30)
