There is always a bunch of talk regarding what division in the National Football League is the best. The NFC South is close. Atlanta is an up and coming team with a scary offense, New Orleans can score points with anyone, Carolina is always a perennial threat, and Tampa Bay missed the playoffs by one game last season. The NFC North has the Detroit Lions, so they are out of the question; similarly the NFC West is where the St. Louis Rams reside, so that division has no business in this conversation. Over in the AFC, Tom Brady is back in the East, and while the Dolphins had a fantastic season in 2008, does anyone believe they can really compete with the Patriots? The Jets will be starting a rookie quarterback, and Bills are just biding time until Terrell Owens explodes. Pittsburgh may have won the Super Bowl, but any division that boasts the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns can’t claim to be the best. The AFC South is close; Indianapolis has been great for years. Tennessee is a strong team in the Steelers mode; run the ball and play strong defense. Houston is primed for their first winning season in 2009, and Jacksonville is certainly not a team to be taken lightly, but still the NFC East is the only division that has four teams that can legitimately have playoff hopes, three of which have Super Bowl aspirations.
