MLB Injury Report
Written by Chris Kuhlmann

Editors Note : Please help welcome the Doc to the Team. He'll be providing you injury updates throughout the year.

This is my inaugural article for this fantastic new fantasy web site. I would be remiss if I did not start out with a sincere “thank you” to the fine gentlemen here at FantasyPros911.com for the opportunity to share my thoughts with you regarding baseball injuries and their potential effects on your fantasy teams.

For those of you that followed my weekly articles last year during the baseball season at melnickandgrecofantasysports.com, thanks for following me here. For those new to my articles: welcome. I hope you find them helpful and they provide you that little extra edge in your fantasy baseball conquests.

A few quick notes on what I bring to the table. I am a Certified Hand Therapist, specializing in Sports Medicine. I have rehabbed all levels of athletes from the little leagues to the big boys, not only in baseball but the other “big 3” sports and many others. I have 12 years of experience, a network of contacts in the industry; and a passion for baseball and fantasy sports in general.

I began writing for Paul and Lenny last year for the 2008 baseball season with weekly reports, typically available Sunday or Monday mornings, so readers could gain valuable injury in sight in order to gain an edge on the competition.

I was fortunate enough, and I guess helped enough people along the way, that Paul asked me to be a part of his Fantasy Gridiron Live Blog Talk Radio show during the football season, where I am known as “The Doc”.

Enough about me, what can I do to help you and your fantasy teams? I pledge to provide you with professional insight that will help you navigate the vagueness of the injury news and information typically out there. I will use my expertise in regards to these injuries, giving you time tables and my expectations of the player’s performance based on these injuries and the effects on their fantasy production.

For years, I have utilized this insight in my own fantasy leagues, in both baseball and football, and have enjoyed that little extra edge over the competitors. Now I will share those insights with you in weekly articles, updates thoughout the week and when possible, appearances in the chat room on Sunday nights.

Leading up to the season, I plan on updating you on the latest information regarding those players that had off season surgeries, such as Chase Utley, Mike Lowell, Jake Westbrook, John Smoltz and others, so you have an idea of what you can expect from them this year in terms of fantasy production. During the season, I will post weekly articles, Sunday or early Monday, as a quick read for you to check before you set your lineups. Also, I hope to be in the chat room many a Sunday night to answer your specific questions.

If there is a specific player you have a question on, there is no need to wait for me to post an article, just email me the question at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I will put a post on the site, regarding the player. As my professors used to say: “If you have a question, chances are, someone else does too.”

I look forward to the season, and along with these other very fine contributors, hope to help you not only win, but dominate your competition.

Thanks Gramp, very appropriate that you are here to witness this part of my baseball career. You have been there at every other; from teaching me to pitch to making sure I was not a "goose for the hook" Thanks for all the love and support.

Glad to have the good doctor aboard! Chris, you helped my fantasy football teams and am sure you will help my fantasy baseball teams as well.
Smoltz

I'm wondering about Smoltz... a few years back, early-40-something Norm Charlton thought he could come back from a labrum tear, but shut it down at Spring Training for the rest of his career.

What are the chances Smoltz doesn't make it past March, given his age of 41?

bj upton, first and foremost, and hanley ramirez, as well.
