Since there has been nothing but Mike Mussina talk lately, and the 2009 Hall of Fame ballot has been released, I have decided to dedicate each day of the rest of the week to some of the top contenders to be 2009 inductees. Today it’s time to discuss Andre Dawson, who finished 3rd in last years voting with 65.9% of the vote. The question remains, is Dawson HoF worthy? I believe if you put Rice in, you have to put Dawson in for his consistency year in and year out. I'm leaning no towards both of them after looking through the recent Hall of Fame inductees, these two just don't stack up.

Dawson has been on the verge of being elected the past couple of years, and fell 9.1% short of induction last year. Many question how Jim Rice (yesterday's player) has been able to pull in more votes considering Dawson produced top notch numbers year after year. The eight-time All-Star won the 1987 NL MVP as well as eight golden gloves and four silver slugger awards. One thing Dawson was never able to accomplish in his 20 years in the majors is win a World Series although he made it to the NLCS twice.
