A good Thanksgiving Eve to all from Chris here at FantasyPros911.com. Today we have a shortened edition of Fantasy Hockey For Beginners as we have started the quest to cook as much food today so less has to be cooked tomorrow. The turkey always has to go in tomorrow but the pies have to be cooked, sausage browned, and even lasagna made for my brother's in laws, who are Italian. Anyone that eats the food should be extremely thankful for those that cook it. So with my chef jacket on...I proudly bring you my three players who have not brought the stuffing this fantasy season....at all!Stuffing everyone (LOTS OF IT)! The players who have not stuffed our pockets with fantasy glory....... Rod Brind'amour (Carolina) -- Why Rod why? When you only have 7 points in 23 games and are a -18...you should almost have a reserved spot on this small select list. At some point you hit the wall and mostly everyone thought that was last year when Brindamour was a -32 in 61 games before turning it on in the last 20 games, garnering 16 points and a +9. However, the 14 game losing streak brought an ugly side to this and the cold reality that Rod Brindamour at 39 has pretty much hit the end of the road. That is the problem with offering a 5 year deal to a 35 year old....you are stuck with him. Fortunately for fantasy owners, I hope you dropped him like stuffing when it turns into a brick. Steve Mason (Columbus) -- Oh no...not again! I know this line was uttered during Spaceballs: The Movie but it rings true here. At the beginning of the season we warned fantasy owners about Mr. Mason. We even referred to the theory of Pascal Leclaire which states "a goalie can have a major 2nd year dive if a team overachieves way too much." Now to be fair Mason does have a 8-5-3 record but with that 3.59 GAA and well below .900 save percentage...he is not going to set the fantasy world on fire like last year. Also, he had 10 shutouts (about 1 for every 6 games started). This year he has ZERO. I am sure Mason and company will snap out of their funk eventually...or will they? With Mason and now Rick Nash openly challenging Coach Ken Hitchcock...could there be an implosion here for the team and fantasy owners as well? Stay tuned. Mike Smith (Tampa Bay) -- The netminder was great last year before he got hurt. But for a team that is loaded with future promise and some higher expectations...Smith has killed fantasy owners who were probably relying on him as a #2 or #3 netminder in your league. The 3-4-4 record with a 3.36 GAA and .886 save percentage is not the only indication that he does not "have it" this year. The reality is that Smith is a better 1B goalie than a 1A and with Antero Niittymaki (6-1-3, 2.02 GAA and .936 sv %) pushing him....Smith has cracked early. The cold harsh fact here is that Niittymaki is the starter now and Smith, who once seemed poised to be the Craig Anderson before there was one is now a shell of his former self until he gets his head back together. If you are a fantasy owner, you would almost be better off with no goalie as opposed to Mr. Smith at this point and time. I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thankgiving and please do check out the Fantasy Sports Channel lineup all day on Thanksgiving on Blog Talk Radio. Stuff your faces with turkey and then listen to some of the best and brightest fantasy experts out there. Now that sounds like a plan. Almost forgot....you can email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with all of your fantasy hockey questions.
