altNo game changers emerged this week, but no matter where a team is in their league standings it should keep working to improve the back end of its roster.  Two weeks can change an awful lot in the NFL and the last player on the bench can emerge as a must-start very quickly.  This week a running back and a wide receiver that have been on the fantasy periphery for many weeks made returns to relevance.  Owners are cutting the cord on a pair of injured starters.

Added

Davone Bess:  He caught ten passes out of 14 targets for 117 yards and a touchdown against a horrid New England pass defense.  He is a possession receiver, do not look for many big plays but consider him especially in a PPR league.  Without Ronnie Brown the Miami running game is easier to contain.  Look for the Dolphins to pass more frequently down the stretch.

Drop for him:  Justin Gage, Patrick Crayton, Torry Holt
Don't drop for him:  Kenny Britt, Mike Wallace, Antonio Bryant

Jerome Harrison:  He was thought to be in Coach Mangini's doghouse, but he received 17 touches Sunday.  He did not have much success on the ground but scored twice on catches. Given that it was just one game, and Cleveland's offensive troubles he is not a must-start.  He is roster-worthy even just to block the competition.

Drop for him:  Darren McFadden, Willis McGahee, Ryan Moats
Don't drop for him:  Beanie Wells, Fred Jackson, Rock Cartwright

Chris Brown:  Whether Steve Slaton or Ryan Moats is the feature back Brown figures to get the red zone carries.  He scored from eight yards out Sunday and is averaging 12 touches per game in the last three.  Houston plays Seattle and St. Louis the next two weeks.  If Matt Schaub is hampered by his
shoulder injury look for the Texans to rely more on the ground game.

Drop for him:  Felix Jones, Willie Parker, Derrick Ward
Don't drop for him:  Ahmad Bradshaw, Laurence Maroney, Correll Buckhalter

Jason Campbell:  He had his best game of the year against a tough New Orleans pass defense.  His passing attempts are way up since his running backs started dropping like flies. Washington is relying on him much more at the goal line.  In the last two weeks he has five total touchdowns from 10 yards out or closer.  A downside is he remains turnover-prone.  He has four in the last three games and for the year his touchdowns equal his interceptions plus fumbles.

Drop for him:  Matt Hasselbeck, Matt Ryan, David Garrard
Don't drop for him:  Matt Schaub, Donovan McNabb, Ben Roethlisberger

altDropped

Clinton Portis:  As this is being written news broke that he was placed on
injured reserve.  The new tests he took Monday must not have been encouraging.  Considering how his situation and that of Brian Westbrook unfolded it is safe to say teams are handling concussions differently than in the past.  What used to keep a player, especially in a high impact position out a week or two is now shelving him a month or more.

Drop him for:  any warm, productive body.  Hopefully you had good backups already

Matt Ryan:  There are some
signs that he may play Sunday, but that is far from a certainty. Owners should remember how Eli Manning's numbers dropped as he dealt with a foot problem.  With Michael Turner at half speed the Falcons' offense is far from its peak.  In the next three weeks they play the #1 (Jets) and #4 (Bills) teams in pass yardage allowed and the #1 (Saints) and #2 (Bills) in interceptions.

Drop him for:  Alex Smith, Vince Young, Joe Flacco
Don't drop him for:  Matt Cassel, Jake Delhomme, Mark Sanchez

Larry Johnson:  Cedric Benson was healthy enough to take 36 carries, leaving Johnson with two.  He still does not have a touchdown this season.  Cincinnati is close to locking up their division, so Benson owners may want to keep Johnson around in case the feature back gets rested in the final week or two.

Drop him for:  Mike Bell, Justin Forsett, Jerome Harrison
Don't drop him for:  Kevin Faulk, Bernard Scott, Chris Jennings

San Diego Defense:  Their effort against Cleveland was underwhelming and they travel to Dallas this week.  On the year they are seventh in sacks, 15th in interceptions, and eighth in overall fantasy points.  It is a solid unit, but not one worth keeping around in lieu of a batter matchup.

Drop it for:  New York Jets (@TB), Tennessee (vs. STL), Buffalo (@KC)
Don't drop it for:  Denver (@IND), Chicago (vs. GB), Cincinnati (@MIN)
