Fantasy Football Added and Dropped: Cartwright Gets the Rock PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Waiver Wire Pickups
Written by Chuck Anderson
altRock Cartwright is the obvious fantasy football add in the wake of another running back injury.  Besides Clinton Portis and Chris Cooley hurting, Washington also has three offensive linemen on Injured Reserve.  Maybe the Redskins have their own clause in the healthcare reform bill.  Besides Cartwright three pass catchers earn spots among the most added.  Two Seahawks are on the most dropped side, along with, for the first time all year, a kicker.
FP911's Week 12 Rankings : QB | RB | WR | TE | K | DEF | DL | LB | DB

Added

Rock Cartwright:  He is the last man standing in the Washington backfield.  He performed very well Sunday, gaining 140 yards on 20 touches.  He was efficient, catching seven of the eight passes thrown to him.  He averages 4.4 yards per carry in his career.  This time of year his fresh legs become a decided advantage.

Drop for him:  Larry Johnson, Ryan Moats, Correll Buckhalter
Don't drop for him:  Justin Forsett, Beanie Wells, LeSean McCoy

Robert Meachem:  He scored four times in his last three games despite only eight catches.  On the year he is receiving 7% of the Saints' passes, which ties him for sixth on the team.  Much like Devery Henderson or Reggie Bush he is a boom or bust option that is on a nice run for the time being.

Drop for him:  Nate Washington, Mark Clayton, Eddie Royal
Don't drop for him:  Chris Chambers, Laveranues Coles, Mike Wallace

Jermichael Finley:  He returned to action Sunday and led the Packers with ten targets.  He caught seven of them for 54 yards, and although he did not score two of his targets were in the end zone.  San Francisco is not particularly susceptible to tight ends, so his performance looks legitimate.  Green Bay plays Detroit on Thursday, which of course is a great matchup.  It also means that owners need to act fast if they want him in their lineups.

Drop for him:  Chris Cooley, Todd Heap, Ben Watson
Don't drop for him:  Kevin Boss, Dustin Keller, Visanthe Shiancoe

Terrell Owens:  He is not universally owned and some
widely-read sources have deemed him droppable so it is worth a check of the waiver wire to see if he shows up.  He has the most upside of any available wide receiver and a new coach-quarterback combination.  Week 12 is a problem, he draws the Jets and a probable Darrelle Revis matchup.  Owens caught three passes for 13 yards in the first meeting.

Drop for him:  Braylon Edwards, Santana Moss, Steve Breaston
Don't drop for him:  Derrick Mason, Percy Harvin, Donald Driver

altDropped

Matt Hasselbeck:  His schedule looks fantastic but it is not translating into fantasy points.  He has four touchdowns and six turnovers in his last four games.  The yardage has been solid but in most leagues that is not enough.  Owners may be inclined to give him one more shot at St. Louis, or drop him for better depth at running back or wide receiver.

Drop him for:  Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles, Jason Snelling
Don't drop him for:  Mark Sanchez, Jason Campbell, Ryan Fitzpatrick

Ryan Moats:  He was completely shut out on Monday night.  Chris Brown got the most carries and Steve Slaton was involved in the passing game while Moats did nothing.  He cannot be a fantasy consideration, even as a handcuff.   Houston had a 39/17 pass/run split Monday and are at 365/268 on the year.

Drop him for:  Darren McFadden, Bernard Scott, Sammy Morris
Don't drop him for:  Lex Hilliard, Kolby Smith, Fred Taylor

John Carlson:  He is another part of the unproductive Seattle offense boasting but one catch in the last two games.  He gets 16% of the targets (numbers
here), but has scored just once in the past nine.  In fantasy scoring he in 14th among tight ends, but that is deceptive.  21 of his 54 points (standard ESPN scoring) came way back in Week One.

Drop him for:  Zach Miller, Marcedes Lewis, Brandon Pettigrew
Don't drop him for:  Anthony Fasano, Donald Lee, Daniel Fells

Nick Folk:  Usually it is not worth it to worry about kickers as long as they are active, but Folk is clearly having problems.  Aside from the fact he has contributed just two extra points the last two weeks he is 4-8 on attempts between 40 and 49 yards.  Before this year he was 17-18 at that distance. There is a sense that he did not fully recover from off season
hip surgery.  Also in the kicker department, Atlanta is working out four of them this week. There is no reason to let a gimpy kicker derail a fantasy team.

Drop him for:  Rob Bironas, Dan Carpenter, Robbie Gould
