Every Friday we will take a look at three players in the AL who are being over-valued in drafts based upon their ADP and three players who can be found much later in the draft that may produce similar numbers for your fantasy team.
The biggest off-season move in the Central was the St. Louis Cardinals anteing up to keep Matt Holliday in town. Whether the front office has financially hamstrung itself with big ticket Prince Albert of Pujols coming up is another story, however for now it looks like the Cards will be the team to beat in the Central in 2010. The Cubs have done little to strengthen their claim of being a serious challenger, while the Cincinnati Reds have delved into the great unknown that is Cuban pitching with the addition of Aroldis Chapman. The Reds actually may be the team that starts to make a move in this division, as they have great young hitting talent in Joey Votto and Jay Bruce to build around. If long time prospect Homer Bailey can finally find some consistency, it may be enough to keep the Reds in the hunt for the pennant as early as 2010.
While Scott Boras works the phone lines from San Diego to Yokohama trying to find a paycheck for the Montgomery Burns-armed Johnny Damon, we will shift our attention to unearthing the guns and butter in the National League East.
Welcome to “Guns and Butter”, a column that aims to give your fantasy team a weekly boost by advising when to pull the trigger on picking up hot hitters and pitchers - and when to drop those players who have lost their flavor like an over chewed juicy fruit. We will be looking at Sleepers and Busts for the upcoming fantasy baseball season.
Who remembers Jayson Werth as the decent catching prospect in the Orioles organization? I do, I do. I think it was his 1997 Bowman baseball card that brought his name to my attention. Anyway, three organizations and a position change later, Werth has received the most ABs of his career and has put up a pretty solid season. Could he be a good middle-tier OFer with 25/25 potential in 2009?
