Most of the rumors of the week swirl around Joe Nathan, some speculation regarding unsigned, veteran slugger-types with no discernable defensive position (Jermaine Dye, we love ya buddy!).  So we’ll have an abbreviated rumor section and move on to some spring training players.

altThere have been a few deals and rumors that have been announced today, outside of the Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee swap.
  • Matt Holliday is being offered an five year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals, who appear to be one of the only teams in contention to sign the left fielder.  FoxSports.com published an article yesterday stating that Scott Boras has misjudged the market for Holliday.

Update 6:09 - Reports are that Halladay and the Phillies are discussing a three year extension that could be worth $60 million.

Update 5:52 - Ken Rosenthal says there's a chance that Brandon Morrow is included in the deal as well.

Update 5:43 - Lenny Melnick of FantasyPros911.com points out another Seattle Times article.  This one mentions the strong possibility of Carlos Triunfel and Michael Saunders being included in the trade.

Update 5:21 - The Associated Press is confirming that Halladay is in Philadelphia for a physical that is just another step until this deal is official.  Speculation that J.A. Happ and Joe Blanton also included in their latest post.

Update 5:16 - Jim Bowden is reporting that Phillipe Aumont (Seattle), and Dominic Brown (Philadelphia) are included somehow in the deal.

Update 5:14 - Lenny Melnick of FantasyPros911.com points out this article from the Seattle Times.  He's reporting that Michael Turner, a Phillies prospect, is headed to the Blue Jays.

Update 4:44 - SI.com is reporting that the three teams have agreed to the deal.  Halladay to Philly, Lee to Seattle, and the other players are unknown still.  Philly will be giving up prospects.

Update 4:39 - Here's Jon Heyman's latest tweet:

im being told
#halladay will agree on deal with #phillies, which would finalize trade. but not likely to happen today,

Update 4:23 - There is speculation that it is Cole Hamels going to Seattle, not Cliff Lee.

Update 4:15 PM - John Lackey will sign with the Boston Red Sox for five years earning $85 million.  This could put Derek Lowe of the Atlanta Braves on the move to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim quickly with Halladay being traded.
There are multiple reports that Roy Halladay will become a Philadelphia Phillie and Cliff Lee could be headed to Seattle in a matter of minutes.  Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated had the first report on Twitter.  Follow him @SI_JonHeyman. More details to come.

Ladies and gentleman, the moment that you have all been waiting for...

"Just days after I wrote an article about filling the center field void in Milwaukee for 2010, the Brewers Front Office has finally come to their senses and traded away J.J. Hardy to the Minnesota Twins for speedy center fielder Carlos “Go-Go” Gomez.

This move will put Gomez in the lead off role for 2010 and signals the end of Mike Cameron’s reign in Milwaukee.

Gomez, 23, has 59 stolen bases in just over 1,000 career at-bats. He was the prize possession in a deal that sent Johan Santana to the New York Mets before the 2008 season, who has yet to hit for consistent contact."

-From BaseballDigest.com

If you've been following Rumor Central this season, you will know that I've been calling for a Hardy trade for months, making this the move the Brewers have made in the past decade, no doubt.

Houston, we have a problem.  Well, it’s not necessarily Houston’s problem, but they certainly are part of it.  With the trade deadline approaching, General Managers across the league are scrambling to identify their teams weaknesses and surplus in order to make the proper moves to push them into the playoffs.  Many teams however, often become sellers, a term that we use when teams trade away major league caliber players in order to acquire players that will help them down the road, and trade those that will have an immediate impact on other teams.
