And now we present our rolling top 10 lists for 2009/10 (updated weekly):
While the NHL playoffs are still about a month away, most Fantasy leagues are rounding in to playoff season following this week which means two things:
A) You're either foregoing this week and deciding to sculpt your Fantasy Baseball draft strategy, or
B) You need some bolstering of your roster heading in to the final week, giving you that extra boost for a championship run.

This year well we wanted to do something a hair different BUT due to the recession...we will dull out the usual skinny, some info, and a smile. We are sorry we did not blow out the budget but at any rate enjoy our list then debate away.
#1: Roberto Luongo (Vancouver Canucks)
Why: With all due respect to Tim Thomas who's stats were a hair better. Luongo over a 70 start season or more just produces more points in leagues where wins and shutouts are essential. The last two full years of Luongo produced a 2.31 GAA and a .920 save percentage with 11 shutouts and 82 wins. Then in just 54 starts last year he had 9 shutouts and 33 wins. Project those numbers over a 72 start season and you have 44 wins and 12 shutouts....that is nasty!
Skinny: For this year...Luongo may not quite get 12 shutouts. I am thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 shutouts and 44 wins with a 2.29 GAA and a .923 save percentage. He is going to be pretty well automatic this year as far as fantasy goalies.
Welcome to this week's installment of the Observation Deck. I see upwards of ten games a week via Center Ice or in person and this notebook will contain some scouting impressions combined with some numbers when necessary. Lets get to week 21:
Vladimir Sobotka figures to have a much more significant place on the Bruins depth chart after the concussion suffered by Marc Savard. Sobotka is a guy I've always liked and he's shown much more offensive ability at the American League level than in his early NHL career (he scored 30 goals in his first 62 AHL games). He's more skilled than his pro numbers would indicate to this point and I thought he was very active Tuesday in the game against Toronto. He's currently centering the third line between Milan Lucic, and Miro Satan so he's a guy to watch based on opportunity alone.
Washington acquires D Joe Corvo from Carolina for LW Oskar Osula and D Brian Pothier.
Analysis: Corvo is a 32 year old puck moving defenseman who will go from Carolina (12th offensively in the NHL) to the Caps (1st) . He had just 12 points in 34 games this season averaging a tick over 25 minutes a game. He'll add to their powerplay and give Washington a little more strength on the blueline rather than forcing them to rely on youngsters Karl Alzner or John Carlson who may not be ready for a prominent role during these playoffs. BrianPothier is a stay at home blueliner who has had some concussion problems in the past. He had only 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) in 41 games to this point. He's 32 and has little upside going to the Canes. Osala is the prize of this trade for Carolina. He's currently playing in the AHL with Hershey where he's put up 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) in 53 games. He's still very much a prospect having just turned 22 the day after Christmas. He's a big power forward type (left wing) boasting size (6-4, 225), and enough offensive skills to play a second or third line role in the NHL in the not too distant future.
Edmonton trades D Lubomir Visnovsky to Anaheim for D Ryan Whitney and a 6th round draft pick.
Analysis: This looks like a good deal for both teams. Two puck moving blueliners switch teams with Edmonton getting the just turned 27 year old Whitney (second on the Ducks in scoring among defensemen to Scott Niedermayer). Visnovsky who is 33 years old was the Oilers leading scorer among blueliners with 32 points in 57 games, but still has 3 years left on his contract. Anaheim is among the top 10 scoring teams in the NHL while Edmonton is second from the bottom (29th).
The Los Angeles Kings acquired LW Fredrik Modin from Columbus for future considerations.
Analysis: Modin has never got going this season after hurting his knee during the preseason . He's had 4 season's of 20 goals or more in his NHL career but has not reached double figures each of the last 2 seasons. This year in 24 games he's posted only 2 goals and 4 assists. In fantasy he's no more than a "watch guy" at this point. The Kings have a young dynamic team so pay attention to see what role he gets over the season's last month. He could be a waiver pickup if one of your players gets hurt and you don't have many choices.
Sabres acquire LW Raffi Torres from Columbus in exchange for D Nathan Paetsch, and a 2nd round draft pick.
Analysis: Torres should fit in very well in Buffalo and play on one of their top two lines. He's a big (6'0, 225) ,physical winger who at 28 years of age has a couple of 20 goal NHL seasons under his belt. He's a different personality and can disappear for stretches but should fit nicely here as the Sabres look like they're on their way to another playoff appearance and the Jackets are once again building towards the future. Paetsch is a 6th or 7th defenseman who was playing just under 10 minutes a game in Buffalo. He's not fantasy relevant in any league format.
